Prayers for the Seasons
These are simple prayers, said one line per bead. They can be said as a group or one for the appropriate season.
Mantle of Snow
For icicles shimmering from bare tree branches, I give praise
For the bracing wind chilling my face, I give praise
For the crunch of snow under my boots, I give praise
For the squirrels scampering across crusty drifts, I give praise
For the crimson cardinal calling to his mate, I give praise
For the snowflakes falling like blessings from above, I give praise
For the hushed quiet of a winter’s night, I give praise
For the warmth’s embrace as I reach home and the promise of light, I give praise
(Repeat four times, in honor of the four seasons.)
(Between each set of four.)
I rejoice in this moment
I rejoice in this sacred space
I rejoice in this time of reflection and serenity
I give praise
Spring Renewal
For the purple crocus, bravely blossoming in the waning snow, I give praise
For the soft green leaves curling from their swelling buds, I give praise
For the heart-lifting dawn song of sparrow, finch and warbler, I give praise
For the first caress of soft spring air on my cheek, I give praise
For the yellow forsythia, crimson tulips and pink azalea lifting my heart, I give praise
For the first day leaving the house without a jacket, I give praise
For the lush, dewy growth now awakened and burgeoning, I give praise
For the hope and renewal blossoming without and within, I give praise.
(Repeat four times, in honor of the four seasons.)
(Between each set of four.)
I rejoice in this moment
I rejoice in this sacred space
I rejoice in this time of reflection and serenity
I give praise
Summer Abundance
For the red, ripe tomato, I give praise
For the honeyed peach juices running down my chin, I give praise
For the swelter of noon and the sun’s rays in my eyes, I give praise
For the verdant green of grass and leaf, I give praise
For the fragrance of roses and the brilliance of sun flowers, I give praise
For the night chirps of cicadas and tree frogs, I give praise
For the rows of corn curving over the hills, I give praise
For the farmer's hard work and the bounty of summer, I give praise
(Repeat four times, in honor of the four seasons.)
(Between each set of four.)
I rejoice in this moment.
I rejoice in this sacred space.
I rejoice in this time of reflection and serenity.
I give praise
Fall Reflections
For the last russet apples still fragrant and crisp, I give praise
For the pumpkins, gourds and cornstalks outside my door, I give praise
For the crimson, gold and coral canvas, stretching across the forest, I give praise
For the crunch of ginger snaps, and a satisfying glass of tart sweet cider, I give praise
For the earthy scents of wood smoke and leaves beginning to decay, I give praise
For the leaves blowing and drifting across the lawn, I give praise
For the black lines of geese ornamenting the sky’s grey cloak, I give praise
For the reminder that the wheel of the year is turning once again, I give praise
(Repeat four times, in honor of the four seasons.)
(Between each set of four.)
