About Prayer Beads
Whether stung on hemp or silken cord, or made from gold, seeds, or jewels, some form of prayer beads have existed since the first spiritual seeker pocketed a pebble as a reminder to pray. Buddhist, Catholic, Hindu, and Orthodox faiths have traditionally included the use of rosaries, chotki, and malas. More recently, Anglican, Christian and Pagan followers are incorporating prayer beads into their spiritual paths.
Prayer beads, also called medication beads, are universal in appeal. Their appearance and use are intensely personal. They may be used with traditional prayers, or, free us to create meditations, prayers and chants of our own design that speak to our hearts.
Holding a circle of prayer beads joins us to ancient spiritual traditions and sets us on a path of discovery: that of developing a prayer bead practice. They are also a wonderful tool for stress relief, can be an aid in recovery and a tool for physical and emotional healing. Prayer beads made from natural materials also offer a connection with the natural world and the web of life, .
Prayer beads are traditionally strung in a circle, the symbol of eternity. Like our spiritual journeys, the circuits we make with prayer beads are never-ending. They are a continual source of strength, focus, relaxation, and spiritual connection. And, when you pick up a set, you never know where inspiration may take you.
