Over on Facebook, there's a growing community of prayer bead lovers from across the globe. The group has members new to using or making sacred strands as well as veterans on the scene. Lately, we've had enthusiastic postings of newly created sacred strands, with many comments and questions. If you are interested in more about these lovely beads, please do check out the the Sacred Strands Facebook group and join up!
New to sacred strands? Here's a quick video explaining the use, prayers and traditions of malas and the rosary. The video features a monk and a nun, giving a nice overview of both eastern and western traditions.
In Search of the Divine Never worked with black, magnetic hematite before, but they look very nice here. These prayer beads are from Full Moon Treasures on Etsy.com. I especially like the textures of the divider and the focal fox-shaped bead. That one is dragon blood jasper. Think I'll consider adding that jasper to my bead inventory.
Came across this bead on Etsy and it just called out to me. I'm thinking this lovely violet would make a focal bead for a delicate strand of prayer beads.
Nature is always a strong theme in my prayer bead design simply because I am so connected with the sacred in the natural world. With so many plants, trees, creatures and elements out there, there is so much to incorporate I'm lucky I don't have to look far to find examples to work with. This bead is lampwork, handmade in glass. I have always admired these artisans so much. To bring such beauty from essentially sand and heat. Amazing. After quite a hiatus, I've been motivated to pay attention to my long suffering website. Funny how life goes in cycles and sometimes even pursuits you love get put aside. Lately, I've been having bead withdrawal and an itch to string some beads. Alas, all my tools and beads are in storage! So, what's the next best thing? "Talking" about prayer beads! So, here I am.
The cobwebs have been swept from Sacred Strands, all the links have been updated, and, as you can see, the blog is live again. My goal for the next six months is to add two posts to the blog every week. To celebrate the web site's reawakening, I''ve done something I've been considering for years, and that is, begin an online community dedicated to prayer beads. So, newly created is the Sacred Strands Facebook group. I'm hoping to create an open, engaging, inclusive group eager to share their thoughts and inspirations about sacred strands. |
